- School Libraries: tool for implementing Primary School Curriculum in Nigeria
Abstract:
The National Policy on Education (Nigeria, 2004) recognized the need for libraries in primary schools as a tool for supporting the curriculum thereby achieving its objectives. There has been a shift from repetition or rote learning to the modern way of teaching which involves the use of library resources. In spite of this, many Nigerian children complete primary education without using the library, many teachers also teach without using library resources thereby hampering the quality of primary education, which is the bedrock of all levels of education. This paper examined the role of libraries in teaching and learning in primary schools. It examined various resources in the library, and how teachers can employ them in teaching particular theme in the curriculum.
